New Workshops for Family Friendly Weekends
We have changed the format of our Family Friendly Weekends. We now offer a core programme of 4 workshops plus a couple of options. Those listed below make up the core programme.
We would regard the following 4 workshops as essential to any weekend.
Introduction. An introduction to the content of the weekend and an exploration of the concepts of “Fresh Expressions” and “ Transformation Church ”.
Welcome. This session looks at the welcome we give to families that arrive in our church. This welcome starts in the car park, moves right through the time given to worship even to coffee after the service. It takes just one person to ruin this welcome so all members of a church should attend this session. This workshop concludes with an interactive audit of how welcoming a church actually is
Models. Churches have discovered numerous different ways of structuring their main worship. A congregation does not have to arrive all at the same time and do the same things. This workshop explores these different models and tells stories of where these things have been tried. This session concludes with an exploration of what might work in your church.
Worship. All the effort of the first two sessions can come to nought if those who lead worship do not lead it in a way that is child and family friendly. The truth is that many leaders of worship really do struggle when children are present. This session will explore simple ideas and techniques for enabling children to participate in worship without making it a “children’s service”.
Please note that these workshops are not “talking shops”, but forums where decisions about the future patterns and style of worship are made.
Listed below are optional extra sessions.
Trends in worship. A look at how society has changed and an exploration of how worship can be remoulded to appeal to all ages.
A look at your building. A workshop looking at how the physical layout of your church can help or hinder your quest to be family friendly.
